It covers such expenses as\u00a0books and supplies, tuition and fees, room and board, and transportation. Typically students\/families\u00a0will apply for financial aid at four levels: Federal, State, Institutional and Private Aid. Note: No one should\u00a0assume they will not qualify for financial aid! Scholarships and university programs consider a wide\u00a0range of factors when awarding money for education.<\/p>\n<h5>Federal Financial Aid<\/h5>\n<p>Federal financial aid is money that students can use to help pay for college. There are three main types of aid: grants, work-study and loans.<br \/>\n<strong>Who gets it?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Everyone should apply for federal student aid regardless of income.<br \/>\n<strong>How to apply?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Free Application for Federal Student Aid<\/a> (FAFSA)<br \/>\n<strong>When to apply?<\/strong> FAFSA becomes available October of the students senior year. Often times the college or university will require a separate application for aid.<br \/>\n<strong>Who gets it?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Students should talk to the college\u2019s financial aid office to determine what the qualifications are for their financial aid.<br \/>\n<strong>How to apply?\u00a0<\/strong>Colleges usually have a separate application process for financial aid. Check the schools website to determine how you should apply for financial aid.<br \/>\n<strong>When to apply?\u00a0<\/strong>Financial aid deadlines vary from school to school but keep checking the schools website, and apply as soon as possible during senior year.<\/p>\n<h5>Private Aid<\/h5>\n<p>Scholarships can come from a variety of sources.<br \/>\n<strong>Who gets it?<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are many different scholarships that are available to many different students.<br \/>\n<strong>How to apply?<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There are many ways to find scholarships.\u00a0 Click <a href=\"https:\/\/www-bhs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/guidance\/scholarships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a> for tips and ways to find scholarships.<br \/>\n<strong>When to apply?<\/strong> \u00a0 Start thinking about and applying for scholarships in 9th grade.
