The early admission program is limited to students who have completed a minimum of four semesters of full-time secondary enrollment and who meet all other admission criteria required of dual enrollment students. If students choose this option, they cannot take classes on the BHS campus.

Is there a maximum number of courses students can take?

The recommendation for traditional dual enrollment students is to take a maximum of 10-12 college credit hours during the fall semester and 10-12 college credit hours during spring semester. A maximum of 6-8 college credit hours is recommended during the total summer term. Summer A and B terms are six weeks each, with Summer C being twelve weeks. Students should consider this when selecting what courses to take in summer given the shortened time to complete them.

The above recommendations were formulated to give students the greatest possibility of success in dual enrollment. Dual enrollment students who receive a “D,” “F,” or “W” must complete the online petition for Dual Enrollment (DE) to remain in the program. Petitions are also required if a student’s high school GPA falls below 3.0 or their college GPA drops below 2.0. Students are allowed only one petition during their DE career, with stipulations typically applying. If a second unacceptable grade is received, students are automatically removed from the program. Any appeals against this action would be submitted to the Director of Dual Enrollment. It’s recommended to submit (petitions) policy exemption requests at the end of the semester.

State statute does not limit the number of dual enrollment courses that can be taken but does restrict courses to be aligned with courses needed to earn an Associates of Arts (AA) degree.

What is FERPA?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that affords parents the right to have access to their children’s education records, the right to seek to have the records amended, and the right to have some control over the disclosure of personally identifiable information from the education records.
