Students who earn a passing score on the FCLE are exempt from the state\u2019s postsecondary civic literacy assessment requirement.<\/p><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/accountability\/assessments\/k-12-student-assessment\/fcle.stml\">Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE)<\/a><\/strong><\/p><p>The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) is a computer-based assessment that measures students\u2019 civic literacy knowledge. In 2021, legislation was passed that requires all students enrolled in a U.S. Government course in high school to take the assessment (see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.leg.state.fl.us\/statutes\/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&amp;Search_String=1003.4282&amp;URL=1000-1099\/1003\/Sections\/1003.4282.html\"><strong>s. 1003.4282(3)(d), F.S.<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p><p>The exam\u00a0<strong>is not a graduation requirement for high school students in Florida<\/strong>;\u00a0meaning you do not need to pass the FCLE to graduate from high school, although you may need to take it while enrolled in a U.S. Government;\u00a0however,\u00a0<strong>it is a graduation requirement for students seeking a degree at a Florida college or university, depending on their enrollment cohort and program.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>According to section 1003.4282(3)(d), F.S., \u201cBeginning with the 2021\u20132022 school year, students taking the United States Government course are required to take the assessment of civic literacy identified by the State Board of Education pursuant to s. 1007.25(5).\u00a0<strong>Students earning a passing score on the assessment are exempt from the postsecondary civic literacy assessment required by s. 1007.25(5).\u201d<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>About the Assessment:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/file\/5663\/2526K12FCLEFactSheet.pdf\"><strong>2025-26 K-12 FCLE Fact Sheet<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/file\/5663\/Florida-Civic-Literacy-Exam-K12-FAQ.pdf\"><strong>FCLE Frequently Asked Questions<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li>Additional Civic Literacy resources are available on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/academics\/standards\/subject-areas\/social-studies\/civics-lei.stml\"><strong>Civics Literacy Excellence Initiative (CLEI)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0page.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>FCLE Supplemental Guide and Sample Items:<\/strong><\/p><p>The purpose of these sample test materials is to orient faculty and students to the nature of the test content and test questions on the FCLE. The content included in the Supplemental Guide is not intended to replace associated coursework or other preparation methods required to demonstrate civic literacy, as described in Florida Statute. The sample questions and answers are not intended to demonstrate the length of the actual test. Student performance on the sample items should not be used as a predictor of performance on the actual test, and neither the sample items nor the supplemental guide should be used to guide classroom instruction.<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/core\/fileparse.php\/5663\/urlt\/SuppGuideFCLE.pdf\"><strong>Supplemental Guide for the FCLE<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fldoe.org\/core\/fileparse.php\/5663\/urlt\/FCLESampleItem.pdf\"><strong>FCLE Sample Items<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/flpt.cambiumtds.com\/student\/?a=Student\"><strong>FCLE Sample Items in the Online Sample Items Site<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul><p>If you or your student want to familiarize yourself with the computer-based platform at home, you can access the FCLE sample test and answer key\u00a0at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/fsassessments.org\/families.html\">https:\/\/fsassessments.org\/families.html<\/a>. A paper-based version can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www-tchs.stjohns.k12.fl.us\/testing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2024\/11\/FCLESampleItem.pdf\">here.<\/a><\/p><p>Please review the following policies with your student before testing:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Electronic Devices<\/strong>\u2014Students are not permitted to have any electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones, smartphones, and smartwatches, at any time during testing\u00a0<strong>or<\/strong>\u00a0during breaks (e.g., restroom),\u00a0<strong>even if the devices are turned off or students do not use them<\/strong>. If your student is found with an electronic device or using Bluetooth\/wireless headphones\/earbuds during testing, his or her test will be invalidated.<\/li><li><strong>Testing Rules Acknowledgement<\/strong>\u2014Reads: \u201cI understand the testing rules that were just read to me. My test score may be invalidated if I do not follow these rules.\u201d Before testing, test administrators read the rules to students, and students acknowledge that they understand the testing rules by clicking the box in the secure browser.<\/li><li><strong>Discussing Test Content after Testing<\/strong>\u2014The last portion of the testing rules read to students states that because the content of all statewide assessments is secure, students may not discuss or reveal details about the test content (including test items and passages) after the test. This\u00a0<u>includes<\/u>\u00a0electronic communication, such as texting, emailing, or posting to social media sites. Please make sure your student understands this policy before testing.\u00a0<strong>While students may not share information about secure test content after testing, this policy is not intended to prevent students from discussing their testing experiences with their parents\/families.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Working Independently<\/strong>\u2014Students are responsible for doing their work during the test and protecting their answers from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated.<\/li><li><strong>Leaving Campus<\/strong>\u2014If your student leaves campus before completing a test session (e.g., for lunch\u00a0or\u00a0an appointment), he or she\u00a0<strong>will not<\/strong>\u00a0be allowed to return to that test session. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing days.<\/li><li><strong>Testing Accommodations<\/strong>\u2014Accommodations will be provided during testing if your student has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), a Section 504 Plan, or is an English Language Learner (ELL) or a recently exited ELL.<\/li><\/ul><p>If you have questions about this test administration, please email\u00a0<a
